I pursued my career after life-changing injuries during a challenging chapter of my life. Being born with a bone chip in my knee, I was left with a structural imbalance. Eventually, this led to various ankle injuries and two herniated disks in my lower back. After having lived a very physical life and being involved in sports (running, hiking, climbing, and bicycling), these injuries were a huge shock both mentally and physically.
I was accustomed to living with physical overuse but now I had to deal with muscle underuse and major atrophy. My herniated discs left me temporarily paralyzed with a long hard road to recovery. Exercise had always been a way to clear my mind, stay in shape and boost my ego; now things had been turned upside down. I realized that I needed to use my time and my weakness for me instead of against me. I started absorbing as much information as I could about healing and health. I tried everything I could find to help me. Nothing really helped kick-start the healing until I tried massage. |
Massage literally got me back on me feet. It helped me to accomplish my stretches and exercises. It helped me to slowly bear my weight for going on walks with homemade trekking poles. I started to lose weight and gain back enough muscle mass to do more and more. I decided to dedicate my life to bettering myself and others with the healing art that had transformed my life.
After doing some traveling to South America, I focused on looking for the best school I could find to educate myself. I was so happy to find the Brian Utting School of Massage in my own back yard. Two years later, I emerged ready and eager to prove that this skill can help in so many ways! I have learned a great deal about this field over the past 20 years practicing professionally. I believe I have assisted my clients on their own paths to healing. This has been a very fulfilling career and I am honored to be a part of it. I consider myself a nurturing and dedicated practitioner with the belief that massage should be for all people. |
My personal philosophy is:
Take care of your body and your body will take care of you!
With thanks and gratitude,
David
